Chronic & Critical Illness
Chronic condition benefits on medical insurance usually cover ongoing medically necessary treatment for stable long-term illnesses—such as hypertension, asthma, or hypothyroidism—subject to underwriting and plan terms. That typically means consultant reviews, tests, and drugs that keep the condition controlled, not experimental cures. Flare-ups of a covered chronic illness are usually treated as part of the same condition unless the policy says otherwise.
Critical illness riders (where offered) pay a one-off lump sum on diagnosis of specified serious illnesses such as cancer, stroke, or major organ failure. They are not a substitute for full treatment cover; they are designed to offset loss of income, extra costs, or seeking treatment abroad. Some expats hold critical illness on a life-insurance platform separately from IPMI.
If you already have a chronic diagnosis, confirm how each insurer defines stability, waiting periods, and co-insurance for long-term medication. For critical illness, compare the list of conditions, survival periods, and exclusions. We can map these riders to your financial and medical situation so you are not double-paying or leaving gaps.
